11 of the biggest changes in Chapter 2

Fortnite Chapter 2 is here. It has come a long way to come here, including more than 30 hours of staring at a black hole, but the game is now back online with massive changes. We've gotten used to huge amounts of new content every ten weeks in this game, but there's never been anything like that: There's a new map, new default skins, new items, and more. We're still browsing through what's different, because this one does not seem to be littered with patch notes, unlike any other patch in the history of this game. Epic seems to want us to discover this stuff ourselves. That's exactly what we will do.

Without official patch notes we will create our own. While we will find out at least for the rest of the day, let's take a look at the biggest changes we can see here at the beginning of the season.

New map: This is hard to miss. But after 1

0 seasons, we said goodbye to the old map in a dramatic way and set out to explore the new. The in-game minimap is dimmed when you first come by, and you need to do this gradually.

Water: Water is a big focus of this map, and we have some nice improvements to it. We now have boats and the opportunity to swim and even dive a tiny amount. There are also some nice water effects and physics effects, but you will not see them at lower graphics settings.

New Default Skins: See them when you open a match: We have new standard skins that are different from those we've played with for more than a year. Do not worry: the characters stay, but they wear different clothes.

Better graphics: I'm pretty sure I noticed some light improvements and the better water effects there. At the highest level, there seems to be some downside, but I'm curious to see if Digital Foundry or other tech experts are looking at things.

UI Changes: Here's nothing fancy, and everything should still be pretty navigable if you've previously played. The basic user interface has been redesigned. These include a progress bar at the bottom of the screen and skin icons next to the players.

New Weapons, But Fewer Weapons: The game promises to be an optimized arsenal for the beginning of Chapter 2, which is a relief: The junk cracks and batarangs have been a bit exhausting. There are also some new ground weapons, but they all fall into pretty recognizable categories.

Support Skills / Items: We have many more options for Medic style players at the end of last season, but these additions are even bigger than these. We now have the opportunity to bring your downtrodden teammates to safety, as well as a new "bandaged bazooka" that can help your teammates heal from afar.

New Progressive Systems : The progression in this game has always been a changing beast, between seasonal and Battle Pass levels, but Chapter 2 brings significant changes. They are now gathering experience for all kinds of things, except killing people, such as harvesting materials or opening chests. There are also medals that are tied to specific actions that you can use to fill out a "punched card" spending a lot of time hiding. Players like me now have options that go beyond squatting in the bush, including being able to hide in haystacks and dumpsters in the environment.

Upgrade Your Weapons : This should solve some of the RNG issues. You can now upgrade your weapons with materials and give players different ways to create the perfect endgame loadout.

Fishing: You can now fish for weapons!

We leave that now as we look for more changes. There should be a lot of stuff coming soon, and it will take a bit of time to sort everything out.
