  1. Ettinger. The Ettinger is most commonly grown in Israel and has a light green skin, large seeds and a mild taste.
  2. Sharwil. The Sharwil is an Australian avocado with a rough, green skin and yellow flesh. It is very oily, has a strong taste and is prone to frost.
  3. Zutano. The Zutano is covered with a lighter, yellow-green skin and has a mild taste, which is different from many other buttery varieties. It usually grows to about 225-450 grams.
  4. Brogden. The Brogden Avocado is a dark purple hybrid of West Indian and Mexican varieties. Although it is very resistant to cold, it is hard to peel and therefore not a popular commercial strain.
  5. Fuerte. The Fuerte has a pronounced pear shape and is available eight months a year. Its name means "strong" in Spanish and it has an oily texture that resembles that of a hazelnut.
  6. Cleopatra. The Cleopatra is a small dwarf avocado that is relatively new to the consumer market.
  7. Bacon. The bacon has a lighter taste than other varieties. The light brown skin is easy to peel.
  8. Monroe. The Monroe is a large avocado that can weigh over 910 grams. It is a firmer variety with less watery pulp.
