GREENWOOD, Ind. – Greenwood Authorities Respond to Greenwood Sikh Temple After a Struggle Sunday
Just before 3 pm, several agencies were sent to the Gurdwara Sikh Temple, located in the 1000 block of S. Graham Road ., on the report of a major disruption.
The police said that 150 people were involved in a "brawl" that resulted in three or four people suffering minor injuries. The brawl allegedly resulted from an expected transition of the executive. The police said the rulers did not want to resign, resulting in clashes and physical struggles.
The ceremony in question takes place every two years and can also include daggers. The police were still investigating whether pepper spray or other weapons were used during the incident. No weapons were recovered at the scene.
Greenwood police said they have encountered problems with similar elections in the past. A spokesman for the department said he had telephoned the Temple officials a dozen times last week.
The incident remains under investigation. So far, no arrests have been made, but Greenwood police said it could change over the next few days.
