16-inch MacBook Pro: Everything we know so far

Back in February, we learned of Apple's plans for a 16-inch MacBook Pro based on an investor announcement by Ming-Chi Kuo. Since then we've learned a lot more about the design, price, screen and more of the new MacBook.

Continue reading as we summarize everything we know about Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Design

When Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first reported the existence of the larger MacBook Pro in February, he pointed out that it was a "brand new design." would act. However, there are a few logical possibilities.

A report from Digitimes of today said that Apple's goal is to accommodate the 16-inch MacBook Pro in the same housing as the 15-inch MacBook Pro. This would be achieved with the new model with narrower bezels than other MacBook Pro models.

The current 15-inch MacBook Pro weighs 4.02 pounds, and if the larger model actually fits in the same form factor, we should expect a similar weight and size.

Regarding other design changes Digitimes indicates that the supply chain partners do not expect many changes, taking raw materials supposed to stay the same. The only real change is that the unibody chassis needs to be CNC-controlled differently to accommodate the larger display.

In many ways, it does not sound like the new 16-inch MacBook Pro design is far from it Design Apple introduced the MacBook Pro for the first time in 2016. However, integrating a larger display into the same form factor is a remarkable achievement in itself. Earlier this year, Michael Steeber from 9to5Mac has come up with a great concept of what Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro might look like.

Display

 MacBook Pro 16-Inch Edge-to-Edge Concept

The outstanding feature of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is likely to be its display. The device is larger than the current 15-inch MacBook Pro, but smaller than the older 17-inch MacBook Pro, which is still popular with many people today.

If you are sitting between these two sizes, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is a good choice, providing a balance between performance and portability for the professional user, especially if it fits the size of the 15-inch MacBook Pro ,

Several reports have suggested that the 16-inch display has a 3072 × 1920-resolution display, starting from the 2880 × 1800 display in the 15-inch MacBook Pro since the first Retina MacBook Pro in 2012 is used. The panel would be unlike OLED an LCD display and is manufactured by LG.

16-inch MacBook Pro Specifications

The specifications for a MacBook Pro are hard to predict, but given the device's target market, you should expect it to be powerful. Already in May, Apple announced an updated version of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with more powerful Intel 8-core processors.

It's unclear what Apple could put into the entry-level 16-inch MacBook Pro. Inch MacBook Pro could be a good indication. The base model includes a 9th generation Intel Core i7 processor with 6 cores and 256 GB SSD memory, 16 GB RAM and a Radeon Pro 555X with 4 GB GDDR5 memory.

Could the new MacBook Pro also contain more I / O? Options than just four USB-C ports? It is still unclear that along with the return of a physical escape key, items will appear on many lists in the Mac community.

Keyboard

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the 16- The MacBook Pro will be the first MacBook to break away from Apple's controversial butterfly keyboard. The analyst expects Apple, after several controversial iterations of the Butterfly mechanism, to introduce a new keyboard design based on shear switches over the last four years.

At first it looked as if the 16-inch MacBook Pro would hit the market with a butterfly keyboard, but Kuo just made its predictions clear last week in a new investor announcement. Kuo expects Apple to move away from Butterfly keys with the 16-inch model and switch its other MacBooks in 2020.

Returning to the Scissor Switch buttons on the MacBook Pro brings a few things with it. For one thing, we expect an improved keystroke – perhaps similar to what Apple's standalone wireless keyboards still offer. According to Kuo, the new keyboard design will have a new fiberglass to strengthen the keys and improve reliability.

The Butterfly keyboards of the recent MacBook models were also much louder than other keyboard mechanisms, which is why the return to scissor switches is ideal as well.

16-inch MacBook Pro Price and Publication

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is expected to form a new, upscale class in Apple's MacBook product line. The starting price is reportedly $ 3,000, the expected price for the rest of the MacBook range. That's between the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac Pro, which starts at $ 5,000.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro launches at $ 2,399 in its basic configuration, but you can easily make it over $ 5,000 with things like SSD storage, more powerful graphics, and 32GB of RAM. The 17-inch MacBook Pro, which Apple introduced in 2009, had an entry-level price of $ 2,799. With that in mind, the starting price of the $ 3,000 16-inch model will be much more plausible.

In terms of availability, many reports have suggested that Apple will launch the new MacBook Pro this fall. Digitimes suggests availability in September, but other reports point to a release in October. Apple will almost certainly hold a press event in September, but focuses on the iPhone 11 series, Apple Watch and Apple's new services such as Apple TV + and Apple Arcade.

There are numerous precedents for an October event focusing on the Mac and iPad. Apple is believed to have several new iPad models in the works, and an October event could include these announcements alongside the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

What do you hope to see in the 16-inch MacBook Pro? Are you planning to buy the new top-of-the-range MacBook? Let us know in the comments.
