NAIROBI, Kenya – A Chinese tourist was attacked and killed by a hippopotamus when he took pictures on the edge of Lake Naivasha in Kenya's Rift Valley just hours after a local fisherman was robbed In the same area, the authorities said on Sunday.
A second Chinese tourist was injured on Saturday night and received treatment at the local hospital in Naivasha, 91 kilometers (56 miles) southeast of Nairobi, the Kenya Wildlife Service
In the same area, a Kenyan fisherman was attacked by another hippopotamus, which was a few miles from the place where the incident took place with the Chinese, a police officer said.
"The man was bitten The chest and his injuries were serious and he died a few minutes after he was taken out of the lake," said Gideon Kibunja, head of the Rift Valley Criminal Police Department.
Death brought six people killed by hippos at Nai Lake vasha so far this year.
Wildlife Service spokesman Paul Udoto said the circumstances are not clear in which the two Chinese were attacked. He said attacks on tourists are rare because they are usually protected by leaders.
He said hippos and lonely buffaloes were the biggest threat to humans, and there were many attacks that left civilians and even rangers out of their lives.
