2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat gets some treats from The Demon

Dodge also changes the lineup and adds some power.

While automakers are escaping for the safety of profitable crossovers and SUVs, the Dodge Charger marches in 2019 with a handful of upgrades and a newly mixed lineup. According to the automaker, sales of Charger and Challenger have increased by 70 percent since 2008, with high-performance models rising from four percent to over 25 percent since 2014.

Upgrading the Dodge Charger models brings the number of six available trim strips – from entry-level SXT to the 707-horsepower Hellcat. The selection also includes the GT, SXT AWD, R / T and R / T Scat Pack.

The 2019 Charger Hellcat receives Jump Starter, Line Lock, After-Run Chiller and Torque Reserve. The after-run cooler continues to cool the charge air cooler after the engine is shut down while the torque reserve closes a bypass valve to prime the loader. The torque reserve controls the fuel flow and spark to balance engine speed and torque, which, according to Dodge, "creates a torque reserve that is released from a stationary stop during acceleration."

Other changes include new dashboard markings, a silvery bonnet, new "Brass Monkey" 20-inch forged wheels, and an Alcantara interior package. The Hellcat will also receive a new grille with two air intakes.

The Charger R / T Scat Pack receives the same new power grille and its dual air intakes, producing 485 horsepower and 475 lbs -ft torque. Line Lock and Launch Assist are both standard features, while a new dashboard switch provides quick access to the launch control. A new bowly scat pack badge replaces the R / T badge. Options available include a matte black painted bonnet, two carbon strips and Bilstein adaptive damping suspension with three modes. Dodge says the starting price is less than $ 40,000.
