One of the best sides of weddings is to see the little flower girls and ring bearers walking down the aisle. But the wedding of Hayden Hatfield Ryal's bride experienced something even more special when Skye Savren-McCormick, 3, served as a flower girl – because Ryal's bone marrow donor was Skye.
In March 2016, doctors diagnosed Skye with lymphoma and juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia – a rare blood cancer that usually affects children under the age of four. In July, Skye was compared to Ryals for her first bone marrow transplant.
Her mother, Talia Savren-McCormick, told ABC News that Skye would not have made it without the donation from Ryal. Savren-McCormick told PEOPLE Doctors only gave Skye a 10 percent chance of surviving the cancer.
Months after being transplanted, Ryals extended to the Skye family through Be the Match Ryal's organization donated her bone marrow and asked the little girl for her upcoming wedding.
Savren McCormick said that during the wedding, her daughter "stepped out and took a giant, handful of flowers and threw her to the floor." One of the bridesmaids said that all are crying ugly. " Image via Mark Broadway Photography
"I had no idea that Hayden had done such a brave thing until we met her and her mother in the wedding week's story and that Skye came," says photographer Mark Broadway Scary Mommy. "I was in tears, and Hayden was so casual and gave details of how they extracted her marrow, saying," Oh, that was no big deal! They make me sleep and I feel nothing. "
" For patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a blood stem cell transplant could be their only chance of survival, "says Amy Alegi, vice president of marketing and communications "Scary Mommy." Yet, 70% of those in need of a transplant do not have a complete matching donor in their family. Be The Match needs more young men and women joining the fight to save more lives.
Skye was thrilled to make the trip to Alabama the flower girl for "Hay-Hay's" wedding .And it was at the rehearsal where Skye and Ryals met for the first time "I went up and I just fell to my knees and all I could do was smile," Ryals said.
Her bond is one of the storybooks. "I always say they are excited for each other They are just in love. Hayden held Skye and Skye sat in her lap most of the time. They were just together in their own little world. They have a special bond, "said Savren-McCormick.
