A three-year-old girl served as a flower girl at the wedding of the woman who had saved her life. The bride donated her marrow to the little girl who was suffering from a rare form of cancer.
Skye's incredible journey
Skye Savren-McCormick was diagnosed with lymphoma and juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, which is a rare cancer that affects only one in a million children in March 201
Doctors did not expect Skye to live on her cancer diagnosis and informed her family that Skye had only a 10 percent chance of survival. Skye needed daily blood and platelet transfusions and also underwent three bone marrow transplants, surgeries to remove her oversized spleen, and multiple chemotherapy for the cancers.
During her 10-month stay at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, Skye had received 77 units of blood and platelets. Doctors now say that Skye, miraculously, is doing well. On Skye's 3rd birthday in March 2018, Hayden sent Skye and her family a wedding invitation and Hayden asked Skye to be her flower girl.
A Bride and a Flower Girl
Skye's parents, Talia and Todd Savren-McCormick, were initially anxious to travel with Skye from their home in Ventura, California to Alabama. The doctors, however, gave them permission, and the family was excited to be part of Hayden's big day.
"It was very humbling and surreal, everyone knew who she was because the city was so small, it was amazing I imagined we would be here, I was just so proud of [Skye] how much She has gone through and how far she has come in. The fact that we were able to do so was amazing .
Talia went on to say that Skye and Hayden have a special bond and love each other The wedding was held by Hayden Skye and the two clung to each other, Talia said she is now excited about the future of Skye, and looks forward to the friendship that is forming between Hayden and Skye, and where it will go.
Skye wore a cream-colored dress with a blue ribbon as she walked down the aisle and fulfilled her duties as a flower girl.She also posed with the bridal party, and Skye's parents said the event was moving and heartwarming.
