This week Riverdale was nothing unusual for Fred Andrews … but it was something special for Luke Perry.
The episode of Wednesday – read our full summary here – marks the final appearance for Perry in the CW Teen Drama following his premature death last month. (Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed earlier this week that the episode of tonight would be Perry's last.) Fred was in hospital after his boxing match with Archie, waiting for the fate of Archie's opponent Randy. Archie was devastated when he learned that Randy had died and accused himself of vowing to box as a result. But as usual, Fred gave his son some paternal wisdom and assured him that an autopsy would be made, that Randy was dying of a drug overdose and not the fight, and encouraged Archie not to be so hard on himself ̵
Perry died suddenly at the age of only 52 years after suffering a stroke, but since filmed several episodes in advance, Fred has appeared sporadically on Riverdale the weeks since , The show plans to address Perry's death on screen – "We know we have to take care of it somehow," Aguirre-Sacasa tells ET Online – but it's not yet known how his death will affect Fred's story arc.
