BEVERLY HILLS, California – "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening says his new show brings new talents with a feminist touch to the adult animated series.
Gröning highlighted differences between the new project "Disenchantment" and his earlier work during a panel discussion on Sunday at a television critics' meeting.
The series is characterized by an adult cartoon with a female lead role. It follows the mishaps of an alcoholic, limp princess named Princess Bean.
The princess, voiced by "Broad City" star Abbi Jacobson, has anything but a sense of purpose.
Executive Producer Josh Weinstein said that the typing staff is a mix of both sexes and ages.
Gröning said both "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and the feminist style of Jacobsons "Broad City" influenced the show.
"Disenchantment" premieres on August 17 at Netflix. Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, transmitted, rewritten or redistributed.
