The funny thing is that Spyro, in my opinion, has never been badly controlled. Even on the PS1 these titles were a joy to play, but somehow Toys For Bob has managed to bring "good" to "perfection". In this context, as I've read, I recall that the new team created these remakes from scratch without the original source code, supposedly because Insomniac misplaced it (how do you lose a PS1 greatest hit?). What if we are really here makes this all the more impressive. These guys have exactly restored Spyros gallop, jump and glide and then refine things further. So, if you've played the trilogy before, you'll feel at home, but you'll probably appreciate the small improvements as well. The bottom line is that Reignited is a sheer pleasure to control, and it has kept me going (and kept) even when there are no goals yet to be fulfilled. This is in sharp contrast to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy in which the crash was slightly altered by Crash, some of which spoke badly.

If we stop them against level transitions on the PS1 discs, I'd say the wait is similar, maybe even longer which seems a bit unacceptable for modern updates of 20-year games. After testing the trilogy on both the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, I can say that the Xbox version may have had slightly shorter load times, but it did not make much of a difference. Also, on the metalhead stage, I encountered a bug where the sound was cut off and I had to restart the software to recover the audio. I also had a glitch that basically freezed my controller in addition to occasional framerate issues, but nothing terrible. I am sure that Digital Foundry is already creating a detailed video that illustrates all these details. I really hope, Toys For Bob can iron out these annoyances soon (long loading, most importantly), or at least greatly reduce the current level.

I'm a huge Toys For Bob fan as long as I can remember ( Skylanders, Pandemonium! ) and even interviewed the studio president Paul Reiche and CTO Fred Ford for a retro gamer . Article a few years ago.
