4 mysterious objects discovered in space unlike anything ever seen

Astronomers are reported to be amazed at four objects discovered by a massive radio telescope in space.

LiveScience.com reported Thursday that the highly circular objects that appear bright around the edges were discovered when astronomers checked archive data from radio telescopes in Australia and India.

LOOKING INTO THE SKY: COMET IS VISIBLE

Kristine Spekkens, an astronomer from the Royal Military College of Canada and Queen’s University, told the science website that the objects appear to be something that has not yet been studied.

“It may also be an extension of a previously known class of objects that we have not been able to explore,”

; she said. Scientists have referred to the objects as ORCs or “strange radio circles”.

The Australian astronomers in the study found that the objects were found while working on the evolution pilot of the universe pilot, an all-sky continuum survey using a square kilometer array pathfinder telescope.

The objects were described as circular, “edge-brightening panes”. They correspond to “no known object type”. Two of them are relatively close together, which could indicate a relationship. Two also show “an optical galaxy near the center of the radio emission”.

“We speculate that they could represent a spherical shock wave from an extra-galactic transition event, or the runoff or remnant of a radio galaxy that is being viewed from end to end,” the scientists wrote.

The scientific papers have been published on Arxiv.org.

The paper lists some possible explanations, but rejects them. They suspected that it could be a supernova remnant, a galactic planetary nebula, or a star-forming galaxy or ring galaxy.

The face-to-face star-forming galaxy theory, for example, has been partially nullified due to the “lack of measurable optical emission” compared to radio emissions.
