40,000-year-old worms were revived from Siberian permafrost

After collecting and analyzing more than 300 samples of permafrost deposits, the team found that two of them contained viable specimens of ground nematodes (worms). One of these specimens was taken from a burial mound in the Duvanny Yar site, previously dated to about 32,000 years ago. The second sample was a drilled ice core from a glacial deposit near the Alazeya River, which is about 41,700 years old.
