49ers remain unbeaten with a 20-7 win over Slumping Rams – CBS San Francisco

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jimmy Garoppolo passed 243 yards and ran for a touchdown, and the San Francisco 49ers remained unbeaten with a dominant defensive performance in a 20-7 victory over the battling Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

] George Kittle had scored eight goals for 103 yards for the Niners (5-0), the once-unstoppable Los Angeles offensive with 165 yards in coach Kyle Shanahan's first win over Rams coach Sean McVay in a game in which both NFC teams competed against each other, Western rivals played their starters.

The teams of these longtime coaches collide in opposite directions after this one-sided showdown in the Coliseum. San Francisco took advantage of his possession offense and a solid defense to remain on New England's side as the NFL's unbeaten team, while the Rams (3-3) are in three games in their first defeat of McVay's two and a half years in office.

Tevin Coleman hurried to reach San Francisco prematurely, while Garoppolo was largely successful despite two sales. The Niners have not scored a touchdown in the last 27 minutes, but they have their fourth 5-0 start in the franchise history and their first since 1

990.

Todd Gurley sits there to rest his injured thigh. Los Angeles failed to move the ball in its least productive performance of McVay's term. Robert Woods hurried to land a touchdown on the first Rams ride, which then made 48 net yards on their next eight rides.

San Francisco won a defense-dominated game by thoroughly throttling the once-impressive pass from the defending NFC champion. Jared Goff went 13-out of 24 for a career low of 78 yards, without feeling well behind a well-drained attack line, and the Rams did not manage to get past more than 12 yards, while finishing third at 0 for 9 Rank went back.

The Niners offensive was not much better in the first half, when both sides had turned the ball over in their 1-0 draw, but San Francisco took advantage of fumbling Rams rookie Darrell Henderson for the opening half of the second half a short opening game TD-Drive by Garoppolo capped.

Then San Francisco took control, intentionally moving the ball and closing the Rams thoroughly. The Niners led 20-7 when Garoppolos Fumble returned to San Francisco 36 with 8:40, but the Rams promptly turned it downs.

For the Rams everything looked fine, while McVay called seven runs in a row to open the drive. Malcolm Brown, the longtime substitute who starred with Gurley, built 40 yards on five runs before Woods hit a beautifully designed end-around.

It was the Rams' first touchdown in a first quarter since last December. 30, and it was the first fast landing the 49ers allowed this season.

It was also the only real highlight of the wretched day of the Rams.

San Francisco responded with Coleman's TD run, which extended a 75-yard drive by a third penalty against Los Angeles. The Niners drove again to the Rams 1, but the cruel throw of Garoppolo on the goal line was easily intercepted by Marcus Peters.

Los Angeles reached the Niners 1 in third place, but ran twice in the middle without a win.

Henderson, who had completed a third-round career before the match, had two impressive runs in the first half – but dropped a pitching out of Goff at the opening half of the second half and Arik Armstead recovered at Rams 17. San Francisco met easily in the short field.

The Niners drove again to Los Angeles 2, but Garoppolo threw a wide-open Coleman down to third.
