1. Democratic Debate

Elizabeth Warren is the new front runner in the Democratic presidential nomination, which is why she took on all the rivals' attacks in the last night's debate. The moderates on stage were really after her, especially Pete Buttigieg, who urged her to pay for her Medicare for All plans and what that would mean for private insurance. He also tore it open for not answering a yes-or-no question about raising the middle class tax. Warren pushed them all back and said Democrats could only win next year if they "dream big and fight hard" and not "stop before we start".

. 2 Syria

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was not worried about US sanctions and would not comply with US demands for a ceasefire if the Turkish military offensive continued in northern Syria. Erdogan's comments came when Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo led a delegation to Turkey to try to negotiate an agreement to end the military operation. Meanwhile, Russian military police units are patrolling northern Syria, keeping Turkish troops away from Syrian forces and their new Kurdish allies.
As Russia builds its muscles in the Middle East, Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a winning way in the region, writes CNN Matthew Chance. What must not be lost is the high toll demanded by this chaos on the civilian population in northern Syria. The fighting has already killed dozens of people and hundreds of thousands are trying to escape violence as the weather gets colder. So you can help refugees in Syria.

. 3 Prosecution

At least for the time being, there is no vote on the indictment. Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her decision yesterday after meeting with Democratic lawmakers. President Trump and his associates have said that the entire impeachment investigation is unlawful without a formal vote, but Pelosi and the Dems say there is nothing in the constitution that requires it. In the meantime, Rudy Giuliani said he would not comply with a subpoena issued to him for documents related to Ukraine. Click here for the latest information on the impeachment investigation.

. 4 Shooting at Fort Worth

Aaron Dean ̵
1; the former police officer in Forth Worth, Texas, who shot Atatiana Jefferson at a social check – is not involved in the investigation. Dean refused to be interviewed by detectives and refused to make a written statement. New details of the shootings were announced yesterday when Dean's arrest warrant was released. Jefferson's nephew, with whom she played video games when she was shot, told the investigators that his aunt had pulled her pistol from her handbag when she heard sounds outside. She pointed the gun at the window when she was shot dead by Dean, who was in Jefferson's backyard, not announcing he was a cop. Interim police chief Ed Kraus, who apologized for the shooting, said it made sense to have a gun if she felt threatened.

. 5 Weather

Last week a norster tore the beaches of New England. This week is another storm and it could be even worse. Predictors believe that this newest norster could consolidate so fast that it could turn into a "bomb cyclone," generally characterized by a 24 millibar pressure drop within 24 hours. It is also expected that this storm will stay on land longer than last week's storm. So people from New York City to Portland, Maine can expect tropical storm winds and up to 3 inches of rain by the end of the week. In Japan, the number of people killed by typhoon Hagibis rose to 74.
