. 6 Resident of Michigan dies of mosquito-borne electrical and electronic equipment

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A sixth person suffering from the rare mosquito-borne disease Eastern Equine Encephalitis this summer has passed away.

The Michigan Department of Health confirmed the death of a resident of Berrien County.

WNDU, the NBC subsidiary of South Bend, Indiana, identified the person who died as Jim Whitright, a farmer from Eau Claire.

In general, the mortality rate in people with severe EEE symptoms is about 33%. In Michigan, this number was almost doubled this year. The state recorded 10 cases of human electrical and electronic equipment of which six proved fatal. The dead also included the 79-year-old Stan Zalner of Battle Creek, 64-year-old Gregg McChesney of Richland, 72-year-old Henry Hess of Cass County, another person from Cass County and settled in Van Buren County.

The threat to acquire electrical and electronic equipment has ended for the year as the mosquito population was killed by cold weather.
