Paige Thompson, 33, was arrested in connection with the violation, the Ministry of Justice said Monday. The Department states that Thompson "posted on the GitHub website information sharing information about theft of information on servers holding Capital One data."
Thompson had previously worked as a software engineer for a technology company and was able to access the Web Application Firewall by exploiting misconfigured software, the DOJ said.
"I sincerely apologize for the understandable concerns that this incident may cause those affected, and work to make sure everything is fine," said Richard Fairbank, CEO of Capital One.
