A new contract makes Marcus Smart a Celtic, and he loves it

It was a turbulent summer for Marcus Smart to overcome the uncertainty of his first experience of free agency with his mother Camilla's fight against cancer.

But the Celtics guard yesterday got some certainty about his future by agreeing to a four-year $ 52 million contract with the Celtics. The deal is fully guaranteed, and unlike some reviews is not front-loaded. It includes several smaller incentives, including a bonus for reporting a certain weight.

Smart's Day was enriching, but not without problems. He developed flu-like symptoms during the signing and was admitted to the New England Baptist Hospital and admitted to infusions.

Smart returns to the only NBA team he ever wanted to play for.

Though there were times During the process, when Smart had reason to believe that his future might lead to another city, he was encouraged by the words of a Celtics employee. When coach Brad Stevens told the Celtics media during the NBA Summer League that he wanted his best defensive player back, Smart's words came to mind.

"The comments from Brad Stevens really helped," said Kenny Boren, Smart's high school coach and director of his youth camp. "Coach Stevens has a special place with Marcus, this was his first big contract year, and at the end of the day Marcus is very happy."

Smart and his agent, Happy Walters, met with Danny Ainge at the Auerbach Center in Brighton yesterday and the rest of Celtics Management.

"He's excited, really happy, because he loves it here in Boston," Walters said. "The contract is fair for him and the team."

The Celtics reached the NBA Summer League earlier this week after Smart and Ainge exchanged greetings shortly after the Celtics' victory over Charlotte on July 9th. A5959002] Ainge playfully toyed with Smart's hat, and although this was the extent of their first conversation since the opening of the free agency on July 1

, it was not long before the pages finally got into serious conversation.

Smart was clearly annoyed at the team's unwillingness to contact, afraid of the lack of credible offers from other teams. But as other players in his design class signed new contracts, notably Utah's Dante Exum and Chicago's Zach LaVine, Smart began to rant.

The deal is slightly higher than the four-year $ 50 million expansion offered by the team last October, an offer that Smart rejected and valued at more than $ 15 million a year. And when Ainge early in the free agency to the training offer of the team held in the amount of $ 6.05 million, Smart took over the lack of exercise of the team personally. But there was a lot in Smart's life, especially the treatment of bone marrow cancer by his mother.

"It was a combination of things," Boren said. "He was depressed and disappointed because he loves the Celtics and at the time he was with his mother, it was just an emotional time for him, but you have no idea how big it is for him, he's got this summer but he's a Celtic and he's always loved that, it's a sombre community that reflects the way he plays and they appreciate his way of playing.
