It turns out they're all wrong: The capsule was empty.
Potter opened the capsule, flanked by a small crowd of local historians and city officials. It took a few tries to clear the old door, but when the time came, the group was disappointed with what they had done, or better said, had not found.
"We were a little appalled to see that there was nothing in it," said Potter.
The capsule was to be unveiled on Saturday at Londonderry's nearby Old Home Day. Town manager Kevin Smith brought the news of a disappointed crowd.
Derry historian Paul Lindemann told the newspaper that there was no listing of its content, but the safe was a movie cast of a city tour.
Could someone have cracked the combination lock and stolen the goods? Perhaps. But it is also possible that there was nothing in it at all.
"We will not know what happened to them," she said.
