MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., argued that colleague Ilhan Omar faces a competitive primary challenge because she is “damned effective” against big money interests.
The newly minted Minnesota Democrat faces a major challenge from Antone Melton-Meaux, a lawyer from Black Minneapolis who describes himself as a “progressive, lifelong Democrat”. Melton-Meaux almost doubled Omar’s campaign funding and reported $ 2 million in its campaign tills at the end of June, unlike Omar’s $ 1.1 million in cash.
On a live streaming Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez admitted that it was unusual to have an elementary school as well funded in a strong blue neighborhood like Omar̵
She said funders “usually like to get a bang for their buck” and usually contribute to races where there is a chance of typing a seat from one party to another.

“So if we are the ones who attract unprecedented multi-million dollar primary challengers, it only shows how effective Ilhan is,” she said.
“It shows you how damn effective it is against large real estate, against our military-industrial complex, against our Wall Street complex, against practically every corrupt institution that we currently have in this country.
“And they come for each of us.”
Ocasio-Cortez said it was not an “accident” that she, Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., All had primary challengers. “Because if you tell the truth to the Force, the Force will resist.”
Ocasio-Cortez pushed a well-funded centrist opponent aside in June.

“And it’s no coincidence that these primary challengers that emerged are funded by Wall Street and dark money. So it’s really one of those big moments like “Choose your fighter”. Are you really – do you really believe that a Wall Street-backed lobbyist operation will really be the best for us, or will we support bottom-up candidates? “She continued.
Ocasio-Cortez said there was a lot of “winds in Washington right now” and not a lot of political courage.
“This is why it is so important that we have people like Ilhan who anchor our congress around a moral center that is accountable to everyday people, and not lobbyists or companies that try to make a profit from our common good to public institutions. “
Omar was elected to Congress and 2018 and was one of the most controversial and outspoken characters in the group of radical leftist novices known as the “Squad”.
But while her polarizing statements on issues such as Israel and police reform have been praised by left-wing activists and the media across the country, this complicates their reelection offer at home.
Melton-Meux has promised to focus on the 5th and has accused Omar of losing votes and not representing her district. It has not supported the United States, Mexico, and Canada Agreement (USMCA), which was supported by the rest of the United States, for the Congress delegation.
“The cold, hard truth is that Congresswoman 2019 has one of the worst attendances in the US House of Representatives. She missed 40 votes. That’s just the truth, ”he said in a Friday debate. “And these are important voices for the residents. It has silenced us on these issues, frankly disenfranchised us on these issues. And when it votes, it doesn’t match the values of that district. “
Omar responded by reporting achievements, including legislation to hold Brunei accountable, and bipartisan legislation to investigate human trafficking in Libya.

“I show up not only in the district, but also in Congress to fight for our progressive values, and that’s the consequence of the way I do my job,” she said.
