According to Moscow's state-owned TASS news agency, Russian fighter planes on Tuesday drove off an F-18 NATO fighter plane near an aircraft that was carrying the Kremlin's Defense Minister plane over international airspace over the Baltic Sea Road to Moscow before two Russian Sukhoi-27 fighters escorting the officer's plane hunted off the F-18.
A NATO official told TASS that jets were approaching the Russian plane to identify it.
"Jets from NATO's Baltic Air Policing Mission have been trying to identify the aircraft that was flying near Allied airspace," the official said. "After the plane was identified, the NATO jets returned to the base."
This is not the first time that Moscow and NATO have participated in such an incident over the same waters.

NATO said at the time that Shoigu's plane was unidentified or unresponsive to air traffic control, so the Alliance's jets were "encrypted according to standard identification procedures".
