NEW YORK, July 14 – Huawei Technologies Co Ltd plans According to the Wall Street Journal there have been extensive layoffs in the US since the Chinese telecommunications equipment company with its blacklists in the US too had to fight.
The layoffs are expected to affect Huawei's US jobs-based research and development subsidiary Futurewei Technologies, which employs about 850 people in research laboratories in the US, the Journal said.
The layoffs could be in the hundreds, one person told the journal. Huawei's Chinese employees in the US have been given the opportunity to return home and stay with the company, another person added.
Some employees have already been informed of their dismissal, while further planned job cuts could be announced shortly, the newspaper said.
Huawei declined to comment when Reuters contacted him.
After the Commerce Department decided to put Huawei on the so-called Entity List, Futurewei employees were faced with restrictions to communicate with their colleagues in Huawei's home offices in China, people told the Journal.
Last week, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said the US government would grant licenses to companies that want to sell goods to Huawei where there is no danger to national security. – Reuters
