Jackson Odell died at the age of 20
The 20-year-old died of an overdose in a sober facility where he wanted treatment, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner The Forensic Officer's report categorized Odel's death as an "acute heroin accident" and cocaine toxicity ".
The Toxicology Report confirmed speculation that narcotics were involved. Odell "had a history of heroin addiction," said Ed Winter, deputy chief investigator of Forensic Medicine, to USA TODAY.
Odell was found to be unrecognized on June 8 in a sober facility where he was under treatment. He was declared dead at the scene.
The actor played Zeke in the 2011 movie "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer," based on the Megan McDonald children's book series, and had a recurring role on the ABC sitcom "The Goldbergs" as Ari Caldwell. He appeared in episodes of Modern Family and Arrested Development.
He died a month before his 21st birthday.
Odell's family called him a "brilliant, loving and talented soul"
"He will always be a shining light," it said in its statement. "He has so much more to share, our family will always carry that truth, and we want the rest of the world, who knew and loved him, to do the same."
