Actually, you do not get the 125 dollars from Equifax, warns the FTC

You were played.

That's pretty much the message from the FTC, which is now warning the victims of the 2017 Equifax data breach that the much-vaunted $ 125 per person billing payoff is really just a mirage. You see, the company has fooled so many of you that there is not enough cash to get around.

"The public response to the settlement was overwhelming," writes the FTC. "With a total of $ 31 million available for these alternative payments, every person using the money option will receive a very small amount."

How much money do the victims of Equifax receive? The FTC is not sure, but has a rough idea: "Nowhere near the $ 1

25 they could have gotten if not so many claims had been filed."

You see, it's your fault you do not get the money . If you really wanted it, you should not have asked for it. Or so.

"You will be disappointed."

But do not worry! The FTC really wants you to know that there is another option! It's just such a garbage.

"Free credit monitoring offers a much better value, and anyone whose information has been disclosed can benefit," the agency says. "The market value of this product is hundreds of dollars a year."

Oh, great. The company that allows hackers to steal all your personal information will now protect it … so much value.

However, if you still do not find the credit monitoring offer convincing and are opting for cash, the FTC is here to let you know that you are being let down.

"You can still select the cash option on the application form," notes the agency, "but you will be disappointed with the amount received and will not receive free credit monitoring."

So you're there. Take this garbage credit monitoring, which you probably did not really need before Equifax got you ready, or enjoy your cent. The option is entirely up to you.
