Michy Batshuayi scored a late goal when Chelsea scored a 1-0 victory at Ajax on Wednesday in the Champions League group stage.
Batshuayi, who came on as a substitute for Frank Lampard's side in the second half, scored the goal in the 86th minute following a cross from Christian Pulisic.
The win extends Chelsea's series to nine away games in Europe, with their last defeat at Barcelona in March 2018.
Pulisic Batshuayi missed a seemingly easy chance a few minutes after his exchange when the coach made the decision in favor of Premier League teams met.
"You want that from your substitutes, so they stay positive and do what they did tonight," Lampard told reporters after the game.
The teams went into the break after a tense first half at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Ajax apparently took the lead in the 35th minute, when Quincy Promes hit Hakim Ziyech's cross, but VAR led Promes offside.
Ajax sustained the attack at half-time but suffered some bad luck in the 60th minute Alvarez's powerful header from Promes & # 39; Eckball bounced off the far post.
Chelsea looked good in the 73rd minute when Pulisic's deflected shot hit Batshuayi, who then hit the crossbar.
But the two were undeniable as Pulisic allied in the dying minutes with a cross from the right when the Ajax defenders got out of the position and Batshuayi hit the ball home.
"I'm thrilled with the performance, and even if we drew 0-0, I would have been happy, but we deserved the win," added Lampard. It was our work ethic and quality that proved the difference ce. "
Ajax captain Dusan Tadic lamented too many mistakes of the Dutch hosts.
Tadic said:" It was a 50-50 game. Chelsea are a good team, but we could have done better. We were sloppy and made too many mistakes.
The two clubs meet again on November 5 for their next group outing on Stamford Bridge.
