ALABAMA – Alabama has been ranked as one of the least healthy states in the country.
A new report from the nonprofit "United Health Foundation" found that Hawaii is the healthiest state in America, followed by Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The ranking includes 35 health determinants by state, environment, public policy and clinical care.
Hawaii is at the top of the list for its low levels of obesity, smoking, and air pollution.
Alabama ranked 48th. Only Mississippi and Louisiana proved less healthy.
The report found that Alabama's biggest problems are obesity, cardiovascular deaths and fewer mental health care providers have higher rates of infectious diseases.
Overall, the researchers said they were most worried that obesity rates had reached a historic high throughout the country.
