Alec Baldwin again portrayed President Donald Trump in “Saturday Night Live” this week and called for the “Weekend Update” to boast that the United States is now “no”. 1 in the world ”for COVID-19 – in relation to cases and deaths.
“My TV ratings go through the roof and every evening at 7pm. All New Yorkers are clapping and cheering for the great job I do, ”he said to Colin Jost and Michael Che, who moderated the segment from home together.
“I always said it was a huge swindle that we should take very seriously,” said Baldwin Trump, who also referred to the disease as “Covfefe-19”. “Everyone has to wash their hands – or not.”
He also warned that all postal ballot papers were “covered with corona virus”. (Check out Baldwin’s latest shtick in the video above.)
Some fans listened to “Weekend Update” on Zoom and delivered a bizarre kind of salmon trail. But Che said that “telling jokes to anyone just looks like hostage taking.”
Che took a moment to honor his grandmother, who had died of coronavirus last week.
He told Jost that she loved her “joke swap” bit and asked his co-host to read a joke in her memory. After Jost read a particularly embarrassing joke, Che quipped, “My grandmother has never seen the show. I just wanted you to do it.” He signed off as “Martha’s grandson”.
Che told fans earlier this week that he was “fine, considering”.
“I’m obviously very hurt and angry that she had to go through all this pain on her own,” he wrote in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. “But I’m also glad that she is no longer in pain.”
