Some Payless ShoeSource stores are close to their expectations.

The Topeka, Kansas-based discounter originally announced in February that all over 2,300 stores in the US and Canada would be closed by the end of May, some locations will be open in June.

"Our liquidation sales will continue until the end of June 2019. During this time, we offer amazing deals with up to 75% off," states Payless on its website. "The shops are rolling until June."

Several stores are expected to close in May and reach their final days. Hundreds of US and Canadian stores closed in March.

At a store in Stuart, Florida, with discounts ranging from 60% to 90% on Tuesday, signs saying "LAST 6 DAYS!" Appropriate.

A list of stores with their deadline was not available on Tuesday. Payless employees did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

All sales are final and stores no longer accept returns or gift cards.

The 62-year-old shoe chain has filed for bankruptcy protection. 18 for the second time. For the first time, the company arranged a deal to reduce debt accumulated through a private equity deal, close troubled deals and emerge from the 2017 bankruptcy.

Payless plans to maintain locations in dozens of other countries, including 420 proprietary stores and 370 international franchisees.

"While this represents a watershed moment for our North American business, the Payless brand continues to thrive in over 35 countries worldwide," says Payless on its website.
