Alleged Intel Core i9-9900K 8-core coffee Lake benchmarks hit 3DMark smoking AMD Ryzen

It's time to get excited about Intel's next flagship processor for the mainstream market. Why this? Unless all the leaks and rumors have been wrong, the 8-Core / 16-Thread Core i9-9900K is coming, and if the last unofficial look is any hint, it will bring the goods. The unpublished processor appeared in Futuremark's 3DMark database, bringing its later competitors to its knees.

Let's go through the specifications first. The database entry indicates that the processor is not recognized, but based on the specifications it seems to be the Core i9-9900K. However, not all specifications met previous leaks and, in particular, the base clock frequency of 3.1

GHz indicated by the listing is slower than the base clock frequency of 3.6 GHz which has appeared in other listings.

There are few possibilities:

  1. It is not a Core i9-9900K processor.
  2. 3DMark is unable to accept exact specifications from the processor.
  3. This is an early technical example that does not indicate the final silicon.
  4. Back leaks that indicate a 3.6GHz base clock were wrong.

While the basic timing is different, the remaining specifications are consistent with previous leaks. It has 8 cores, 16 threads and a 5 GHz turbo clock. The Core i9-9900K is expected to ship with a 16MB L3 cache and a TDP of 95W.

The chip achieved a CPU score of 10,719 tests and 9,862 total in 3DMarks Time Spy. It ran in an ASUS ROG Strix Z370-F gaming motherboard with 16 GB (2×8 GB) G.Skill DDR4-2666 memory, a 500 GB Samsung 960 Evo SSD and a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card.

The performance gap gets even bigger when comparing the clocked chips to the Core i9-9900K. That's just a benchmark, of course, but it looks promising.
