A suspected spy from the United Arab Emirates, charged with the murder of Saudi Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, was found dead in a Turkish jail, according to a report Monday.
Prison guards found Zaki-identified man YM Hassan, who was hanged in his solitary confinement cell in Silivri Prison in Istanbul, initiated an investigation into his death, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Turkish prosecutors.
Turkish state media said Hassan died of suicide.
Authorities in Turkey investigated Hassan and another man in connection with Khashoggi's assassination in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last October by Saudi Arabian activists.
The two men arrived in Turkey after Khashoggi's death on October 2, and were arrested on April 1
They gave espionage to the United Arab Emirates.
Turkish state media said the two gathered information about Arab citizens living in Turkey and tried to recruit people to a surveillance network.
The prosecutors in Turkey did not provide any information about Hassan, his age. or his nationality.
