A Mazon announced that his voice assistant Alexa will receive political donations for 2020 campaigns in October.
"2020 US presidential candidates can sign up to receive campaign contributions through Alexa, and all candidates are invited to use this technology – boarding is easy and requires no technical experience," the company said Wednesday.
People who own an Amazon Alexa simply have to say, "Alexa, donate [candidate’s name]." The person can then give up to $ 200 to candidates who partner with Amazon.
Qualification requires campaigns that specify Amazon bank account, credit card, phone number, and street. According to a spokesman, the company will charge a handling fee of 2.9% and 30 cents per donation.
Amazon came under fire recently after it was revealed that thousands of its employees were listening to voice recordings from devices using Alexa. The company used both full-time and contract workers to listen to voice recordings, leading to concerns about privacy violations.
