An American cheese was named World Champion for the first time.
Rogue River Blue from South-Oregon cheese maker Rogue Creamery was named World Cheese of the World in 2019 at the World Cheese Awards in Italy in October, according to the organizers of the competition, the Guild of Fine Food
The Organic Blue Cheese has 3,803 other cheeses struck in competition, the world's largest competition with cheese only. Competition judge Bruno Cabral described Rogues cheese as a "taste party" with "different sensations, balance, sweet and spicy notes".
David Gremmels, owner of Rogue Creamery, said he was "humbled and full of gratitude" in a press release after the victory.

John Farrand, managing director of the Guild of Fine Food, called it "one of the most dramatic finals in the history of world cheese".
"Rogue Creamery has been at the forefront of the US art cheese revolution for several years, so it seems very appropriate that they are the first American winners of our world champion cheese trophy," Farrand said in the press release.
Rogue River Blue is produced Only in the fall, when the dairy says that cow's milk is the best. It then ages 9 to 11 months in caves before being wrapped in pear liqueur-infused Syrah vine leaves.
Rogue Creamery sells the cheese on his website for $ 75 for a 20-ounce quarter-wheel or $ 235 for a 5-pound full-wheel wheel.
