America's most popular and unpopular fast food burger



Burgers are one of America's favorite foods, but according to a new poll, there is a clear winner among American burger chains.

Market Force Information, a customer experience management company, conducted a survey of 7,600 American adults to find out their favorite fast food restaurants – and in the category of burgers was one of the best.

West Coast's darling, In-N-Out, ranks at the top of America's favorite burger chain for the third consecutive year, with Five Guys in second place. In-N-Out had the best experience and customer loyalty.

Participants were asked about their satisfaction with their recent visit and their likelihood of recommending the restaurant. The results were then averaged to determine the composite loyalty index score. Only chains were analyzed that received at least 100 customer responses. Attendees were also asked about their culinary experiences, including delivery, attendance, brand engagement, customer experience, and problem experience.

Of the 14 burger chains were Jack in the Box (JACK), Wendy's (WEN) and Carl's Jr., Burger King (QSR) and McDonald's (MCD) were McDonald's ranked as the least favored customer, with McDonald's coming in last.

Overall, dining in burger restaurants has increased over the previous year. Thirty-three percent of respondents said they had visited 10 times or more in the last 90 days, which represents an increase of 21 percent in 2018. However, 25 percent of respondents said they only visit once a month or less.

Technical usage has increased compared to previous years, with seven percent of dine-in customers ordering from kiosks of 4% in 2018 and 3% in 2017. The number of customers ordering tablets also rose to 4% this year, from 1% in the previous year to less than 1% in 2017.

In the Meanwhile, 18% of the customers take food directly out of the restaurant and 2% receive the delivery either from the restaurant or through a third party.

When assessing the negatives, the number one complaint among customers was long waiting times, followed by inaccurate orders – 24% of consumers said that the quality of food or drink was poor, and 20% said that the quality of food or drink was poor or the behavior of the staff is a problem representing the least negative experiences. Both In-N-Out and Five Guys solved problems best when they occurred. McDonalds, Red Robin and Carls Jr. had the highest problem experiences.

The perception of health was low in the burger category. Only 19% of respondents said they were satisfied with the availability of healthy food options on their last visit. Given the strong competition in the fast food sector, healthier food will remain a great opportunity.

The eight key metrics have been analyzed and In-N-Out ranked first in four categories. McDonalds finished last in two categories, including the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food.
