The performer and two members of his circle were arrested on 3 July following a dispute in the Swedish capital on 30 June. David Rispers and Bladimir Corniel – attacked the victim by kicking and beating with all or part of a glass bottle while lying on the floor.

A $ AP Rocky, who did not plead guilty to the charges against him, argued that the trio were simply defending themselves.

Known for his song "Praise the Lord," the 30-year-old rapper – whose real name is Rakim Mayer – was released by the Swedish authorities at the end of the trial on August 2, and left shortly thereafter.

The incident angered fans and fellow artists and strained diplomatic relations with the United States following President Donald Trump repeatedly demanded the release of the rapper and even brought up the problem with the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

Speaking to CNN, Löfven's spokesman Mikael Lindström said: "The government can not and will not seek to influence the ongoing legal process."

Swedish officials repeatedly stressed that the country's judiciary was "completely independent." and "not taking into account outside pressure from politicians or others".

The rapper addressed the case, according to Reuters, during a performance at a music festival in California on Sunday.

"Hopefully we will not have to go back to jail or anything like that, that would be crazy," he told the audience at the Real Street Festival – his first public appearance since his release. "It was an unfortunate event and I'm just trying to be blessed."
