Well, here's something we do not normally check for IR: smartphones. When I bought the iPhone 8 Plus last year, I decided to take an extensive field test more or less as an excuse to thoroughly try out the camera. I'm pretty impressed with the quality, all in all. While the IR test lab was really not designed to handle the limitations of smartphone cameras when I had the opportunity to test the Google Pixel 2, I took the chance to do another smartphone field test!
Taking the Pixel 2 abroad during a visit to Japan for CP + as well as various locations in Atlanta and on top of the Blue Ridge Parkway, I was able to get a good feel for the picture quality and overall camera performance in a variety of situations and lighting conditions , Just as I experienced it with the iPhone 8 Plus, I am very impressed with the picture quality, of course within the limits of the small sensor size of the smartphone. In fact, for most situations, I think the Pixel 2 equips my iPhone 8 Plus in terms of image quality, at least with its standard camera app and direct camera JPEGs. The fine resolution is very good and the noise reduction is quite impressive.
Maybe my favorite photo I shot with Pixel 2!
4.4mm (27mm), f / 1.8, 1 / 3344s, ISO 63
