Antonio Rüdiger played a crucial role in Chelsea’s transfer from Timo Werner

Antonio Rudiger has reportedly played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s win over Liverpool in signing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner.

The Londoners have emerged as favorites to land the sought-after Werner after offering the striker a £ 200,000-a-week contract.

It was widely believed that Liverpool led the race for the German international earlier this season. Manchester United was also in the race.

However, given the current financial climate amid the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the Reds were unwilling to activate the striker’s £ 50m release clause, which expires this month.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has money to spend this summer ̵

1; but they also have a secret weapon in their German defender Rüdiger.

Werner has scored 25 goals in 29 Bundesliga matches this season

He and Werner know each other from their time in Stuttgart and from their time in international service.

And according to the German publication Bild, Rüdiger was in contact with his German team-mate throughout Chelsea’s entire advertisement for the striker.

Rudiger has reportedly spoken about life in West London, and that convinced Werner to make Chelsea his next move.

Metro reports that Chelsea had another advantage over Liverpool. According to reports, Werner believes that he has a better chance of getting a place in the first team at Frank Lampard.

While Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp sees Werner as perfect for his team, the 24-year-old would face a challenge to penetrate the scary front of the reds of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Chelsea is in the market for a player who can play widely in the top three or middle, which makes Werner an ideal option.

He could either compete alongside Tammy Abraham or offer Chelsea an option other than the up-and-coming young England center forward.
