Apple announces repair program for Apple Watch screens

Apple has detected a bug in certain Apple Watch models that can lead to screen breaks, and started a replacement program for affected users. Apple or authorized service providers will replace the screen for free on suitable models.

"Apple has found that in the case of aluminum models of an Apple Watch Series 2, under very rare circumstances, a crack may occur along the rounded edge of the screen or Series 3," the company says on its website. "The crack can start on one side and then continue on the screen as shown in the following figures."

The program applies only to watches of the aluminum series 2 and 3, including the Nike + models and the mobile radio variants. The original Series 0, Series 1

and Current Series 4 models are not covered, and in the case of Series 3, only models purchased until September 2019 are permitted. This could mean that Apple has resolved the manufacturing issue, or plans to discontinue Series 3 this month – perhaps at the iPhone event next week. In social media, however, it is always difficult to say how widespread such problems are. A class action lawsuit in California was dismissed earlier this year due to insufficient demonstration of the flawed design.
