Apple claims to be banning apps that compete with Screen Time

Some of these apps had advanced features, such as: For example, support for managing Android devices and blocking websites in browsers besides Safari. The Times also understood that developers had only received brief notes with change requests without any reasons or details threatening them with changing their apps or explaining the cause of their apps. In fact, companies had to change their business models with little warning.

Apple's Tammy Levine said in a statement that the company "treated all apps equally, including those who compete with our own services." She added that Apple's goal was to create an ecosystem that would give access to "as many high-value apps as possible" and dismissed the notion that Apple's apparent collapse was related to the introduction of Screen Time.

This statement is not likely to satisfy critics. Spotify filed an EU complaint in which Apple was charged with several anticompetitive practices, including restrictions on services challenged by its internal music service. You can not currently use Siri to control Spotify, for example. There is also a long-standing perception that Apple intentionally or otherwise is pushing into the territory of third party apps ̵

1; the term "Sherlocked" refers to times when Apple introduces a feature that makes an app largely irrelevant. Clearly, screen-time management developers feel they are under similar pressure and may be reluctant to back down.
