2019 should be the year of foldability, but problems with Galaxy Fold test equipment and a mysterious Huawei Mate X delay have left nosy consumers in the lurch. Both handsets will eventually hit the market, but it is difficult to see foldable devices establishing themselves in the market this year.
That did not seem to scare Apple, as the IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin claims to have developed its own foldable product. This is not the first time we hear rumors about an Apple-made foldable iPad, but what's special about it is that Lin says Apple is building a foldable iPad and not an iPhone.
According to Lin, the foldable iPad will support 5G, be equipped with the latest A-Series processor, and have a display nearly as big as the current MacBook series. He did not describe the design of the device, so we do not know if this foldable iPad has a single screen that can be cut in half, or if Apple will go another way. Lin also noted that it will be highly portable and have "business-friendly" features, which could possibly make it a laptop replacement that the standard iPad does not have (although Apple has made progress in this regard in recent years).
Lin believes that the foldable 5G iPad could hit the market next year. Given that Apple has not even released a 5G phone, it's hard to imagine a 5G foldable tablet will be ready in the next 1
