Apple Prepares McEnery Convention Center for WWDC 2018 [u]

Like last year, Apple is rapidly turning the San Jose Convention Center into a mecca for Instagram and Twitter developers.

Like WWDC 2017, Apple adorns McEnery's entire front facade with illustrations that show the WWDC 2018 media for the first time in a March announcement. The design, which has a set of three-dimensional graphical user interface elements hovering over a white pen, has been used in subsequent e-mail correspondence, a dedicated WWDC website, and an iOS companion app.

Similar to last year's conference, the McEnery Convention Center will serve as a hub for developers visiting San Jose to participate in WWDC activities. There, attendees can access Apple engineers' technology sessions and labs, consult with key company employees, attend special guest speaker presentations, and more.

The WWDC invades the area, with at least one session, a workout boot camp run by Kayla Itsines and scheduled to take place at the City National Civic Theater across the street from McEnery.

Apple is ready to introduce a host of new software technologies at WWDC 2018, highlighted by a next-generation "iOS 12" system for its flagship iPhone devices. Updates to the company's core platforms – macOS, watchOS and tvOS – are expected as well as announcements on health, artificial intelligence, augmented reality frameworks and more.

While WWDC is not intended to serve as a launch pad for new hardware, Apple has used the event to launch products in the past. For example, in 2017, the company debuted with the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, iMac Pro and HomePod, as well as specifications for the MacBook and iMac series. According to rumors, Apple plans to limit announcements to an updated MacBook program this year.
