Apple today quietly placed orders for battery-powered cases for all three 2018 iPhone models – iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. The promise of performance and the designs are essentially the same as those made by Apple for earlier iPhones battery cases.
As shown above, each phone receives a black and a white option. The housings are made of silicone and are very similar to the existing non-battery silicone housings that were first shipped with cell phones late last year, except for the significant bumps on the bottom two thirds of the back of the cases. The hump naturally houses the battery. Since the three phones each have different sizes, these cases can not be exchanged between the models.
These cases work with wireless Qi chargers, and you can charge both the case and the phone from the mentioned chargers at the same time – though it's likely that the qi speeds on iPhones are not something you can write about Quantity of lithium-ion battery for refilling. In many cases it is better to use cables, and that's fine, because the cases support fast charging of USB-PD compatible chargers.
With the iPhone XS housing Apple promises up to 33 hours of talk time. 21 hours of internet usage or 25 hours of video playback. The XS Max has up to 37 hours of talk time, 20 hours of Internet and 25 hours of video playback.
As we've seen in our iPhone XR review, the XR already has an impressive battery life You have a serious stamina: 39, 22 and 27 hours for these use cases. Apple tested the battery life of the corresponding iPhone models on pre-production units, as stated in a footnote on the Apple Store page for each case. In general, we've found that Apple's own claim about the battery life of its products in our reviews is pretty close to reality, but a term like "internet usage" is of course so vague that it's not very useful.
Cases also supports Lightning accessories. Of course, if Apple changes to USB-C this year, or in the next few years, and you're often forced to upgrade, you may have to buy another case here too long, even if the 2019 iPhones do not change shape is an important factor.
These phone models are too new to have battery life issues that have inevitably affected older iPhones and that have resulted in part in Apple's battery replacement program last year. And they offer a better overall battery life than the phones from 2017. Conference participants and frequent travelers, however, know that no battery will ever last long enough.
Each case costs $ 129 and is now available at Apple's online store.
