US President Donald Trump urged Sweden to "give ASAP Rocky its freedom" in a series of tweets.
The musician, whose real name is Rakim Myers, was charged with assault in Stockholm. He will stay in custody until a trial takes place.
Mr. Trump raged on Twitter that Sweden had "abandoned our African American community".
ASAP was arrested on July 3 after a video-based battle.
Two other men who were with them at the time were also charged with assault. The musician says that his group was persecuted by a group of men and he acted in self-defense.
Donald Trump said last week that he spoke with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven about the ASAP case.

Other celebrities, including Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, also demanded the release of ASAP. More than 500,000, including artists Nicki Minaj and Post Malone, have signed an online petition requesting the release of the rapper on bail.
The trial is scheduled to begin on July 30th.

In videos later posted on ASAP Rocky's Instagram, he and the people he's with are asking a couple of men to stop following them.
One of the men blames the 30-year-old's team for breaking their headphones.
In the headline for the first video, ASAP Rocky writes: "We do not know these guys and did not want trouble, they followed us for four blocks."
In the second, he blames the man, his guard, with headphones on his face to have struck.
The 30-year-old was in Stockholm to perform at the Smash Festival.
