It's difficult for an astronaut in space to get good food. One could not wait to eat one of his favorite foods, so he took things into his own hands.
A NASA astronaut decided to order pizza so that when he finished his mission, he was ready for him.
Hot and Ready
Astronaut Mike Massimino recalls how he ordered a film during his descent to Earth after a screening of the documentary One Strange Rock . He noted that pizza is the favorite food of an astronaut and NASA recently developed a kit for making pizza without gravity. Astronauts can make these pizzas by processing gift packs of the space station's food into mini-pies.
However, these kits are nothing compared to reality, as Massimino explained that weightlessness can not compete with the freshly baked pizza that is here on earth. Massimino traveled in 2002 and 2009 with two separate space shuttle missions. Massimino is retired now.
Fellow astronaut Randy Bresnik also praised the Space Pizza as one of the best treats he could enjoy while on the International Space Station. Bresnik and his crew also filmed how astronauts make pizza in 201
"Because the texture and taste were so different from the normal free-dried foods we had, it was the best pizza I've ever had," commented Bresnik. One Strange Rock
One Strange Rock is a documentary by National Geographic that was moderated by I Am Legend actor Will Smith and produced by Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. The series shows how life survives on planet Earth and consists of ten episodes told from the perspective of eight astronauts.
Each episode focuses on an astronaut and a fundamental aspect of life on Earth. The last episode premiered on May 28, 2018. She turned to Peggy Whitson, the first woman to command the ISS.
During a podium discussion on the series, Whitson also spoke about the importance of pizza and how it significantly influenced their experience in space. Whitson and Massimino talked about their experiences as astronauts and how they began to look at people on Earth, "Earthlings."
The two astronauts expressed how their time in space made them appreciate the Earth and it is really to see. Other participating astronauts featured in the documentary were Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman in space, and Jerry Linenger, who was aboard the Russian Mir space station, which went up in flames in 1997.
