Watch out for Xiaomi, Asus considers its top spot in India with its new ZenFone Max Pro, and it represents a pretty good case.
0,999 Indian Rupee Phone (that converts to $ 165, £ 115 and AU $ 215) debuted on Monday in Delhi with a pretty impressive feature set given its low start price for a 3GB model with 32GB onboard memory, with the 4GB model with 64GB onboard memory for 12,999 Indian rupee (about $ 195, £ 140 and AU $ 255). A version with a better 16 megapixel front and rear camera is sold for 14,999 Indian rupees (about $ 225, £ 160 and AU $ 295).
The 6-inch Full HD Max Pro offers a massive 5,000mAh battery that can easily last a full day while carrying at least 3GB of RAM and up to 64GB of onboard storage. It will sport dual rear 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras, with a front 8-megapixel selfie shooter.
That's not all, as the Max Pro will also have powerful speakers and run on pure Android 8.1 without being overlaid by this custom Asus skin. It's the first Asus phone that actually uses pure Android, but there does not seem to be any Android One branding that is usually delivered with such devices.
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636 processor, you should be able to play games like Asphalt 8 easily as well. Unlike other phones, where you have to choose between the SIM or microSD card, there is a separate, expandable memory slot in addition to the dual-SIM features. No wonder then that the ZenFone Max Pro also hits the market puts pressure on Xiaomi's current lead in India, where the Chinese company is doing very well after shipping 8.2 million cell phones between October and December last year while beating the Korean giant Samsung.
And one of his phones, the $ 235 Xiaomi Mi A1, was the key to his success. However, the entry of the even cheaper Asus ZenFone Max Pro is a sign that other manufacturers are on Xiaomis heels and want to get a piece of the huge Indian cake.
While the Max Pro is destined for India, it will appear on the regional e-commerce website Lazada in Indonesia on April 25 before it will be sold online by Flipkart in India on May 3. There are also plans to move the Asus phone to other international markets in the future.
