AT & T's original 5G service (not 5G Evolution) is currently available in 12 stores by invitation and requires the use of a mobile Netgear Nighthawk 5G hotspot. Initially, the data speeds were only slightly higher than in the operator's fifth 5G network. However, adjustments have been made and AT & T announced yesterday that it is the first US carrier to achieve 5G mobile speeds greater than 1 Gbps. The second largest mobile service provider in the US says that at this speed, a two-hour HD movie can be downloaded in 20 seconds.
Back in December, AT & T's 5G service had a download speed of 1
94.88 Mbps, which is about one-fifth the speed of the 1 Gbps speed with which the service was recently clocked. At that time, the operator's 5G Evolution service, which is actually 4G LTE, had a download speed of 187.44 Mbps. However, by upgrading its 5G network, AT & T has been able to leverage the four-carrier aggregation of 100MHz carriers to increase its network data capacity for faster speeds.
"Today we were the first carrier in the US to reach mobile 5G speeds in excess of 1 gigabit per second. We reached this milestone in our 5G live network in several cities with a commercial device, the NETGEAR Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot Achieved … that's all part of our plan to introduce the latest 5G technologies to our customers, and they will continue to be the first and newest versions of 5G. "- Igal Elbaz, SVP wireless technology, AT & T
All four major US carriers will be introducing this mobile 5G service later this year. As the latest generation of wireless connectivity arrives, new businesses, services and features are expected to skyrocket and use faster data speeds.
