Braves recover 2-1 victory over the Phillies
The Braves had a good start as they defeated the Phillies 2-9. Not only did Atlanta host a game against Philadelphia, but Washington lost at home to the Dodgers.
Braves feared that Nick Markakis's injury could be grave.
The news, however, was not only good for Atlanta. Nick Markakis left the stadium during the Friday's sixth innings after being hit on the wrist by Cole Irvin of Philadelphia. He will be tested on Saturday, but Brian Snitker and the company did not sound optimistic.

Max Scherzer tackles renewed upper back problems
More bad news for the Nationals as Max Scherzer again has stiffness in his back. Scherzer went in the All-Star break because of back pain on the injury list. He received a cortisone shot to relieve inflammation and returned earlier this week. He underwent an MRI and this problem is reportedly unrelated to the inflamed bursa sack he had previously studied. It is not yet known if he will make his next planned start.
Zobrist indicates a desire to return to the boys
Ben Zobrist has informed the boy that he is ready to return to action. Zobrist has been on the blacklist since the beginning of May while engaging in a family affair.
Cubs acquire Derek Holland, designated Tim Collins
Chicago also picked up the seasoned left-hander Derek Holland from the San Francisco Giants for cash. Holland is expected to be the bullpen for the Cubs.
