In Spain, three tourists have been infected with the Chikungunya virus for the first time. The carriers of the usually not fatal but sometimes extremely painful illness are tiger mosquitoes of the species Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Reliable protection against these originally tropical mosquito species is offered by mosquito sprays such as the ANTI BRUMM Forte from the pharmacy, recommended by the Swiss Tropical Institute.
The Chikungunya virus has so far mainly been found in numerous African countries as well as in the south and southeast of Asia. It is the causative agent of a disease that causes joint pain, which can lead to fever and severe pain and stiffness of the joints lasting one to two weeks. In Europe, the virus first appeared in Italy, later in France and has now reached Spain. Since there is no vaccine or targeted therapy against the virus, one can only protect against the carriers of the disease ̵
The most effective measures therefore include insect repellents, such as the Anti-Brumm Forte recommended by the Swiss Tropical Institute. The mosquito repellent from the pharmacy, which is mostly bought in Germany, contains the substance DEET recommended by the WHO and reliably protects up to six hours from tropical and domestic mosquitoes. The Stiftung Warentest (5/2017) once again awarded Anti Brumm Forte a very good product performance in the mosquito repellent category.
