Princess Kako is the second daughter of Prince Akishino and his wife Kiko, as well as the second granddaughter of Emperor Akihito, who was abdicated in April, and Empress Michiko. The new Emperor Naruhito will climb the Japanese throne at a formal ceremony in Tokyo on October 22.

As a teenager, Kako was a successful figure skater. Since 2013 she has been studying literary and humanities subjects at international universities. On Wednesday, the 24-year-old will also be received by Federal Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein for lunch. (APA)
