Shaun Lathrup, 28, from South Rockwood, said he was not really that interested Game was postponed.

"I did not go anyway," he said. "I was just here to have a good time."

Friends Sean Matela and James Millar from Troy sipped at Woodmore at Fillmore Detroit, where a free party with 101.1 WRIF-FM night owls will stay dry.

"The original plan was to come here and see radio hosts like Dave and Chuck the Freak … and then hop around the city and enjoy the festivities," Matela said, 30. For them, the next checkpoint is probably another bar or perhaps a tent party. They rely on fewer crowds and maybe cheaper at some parties. And why not, they have already taken the day off.

"We only have two opening days out," Millar said.

August Gitlaglag of Hamtramck was not deterred by the bad weather or canceled game plans

"I came from Hamtramck in 10 minutes with a $ 12 Lyft ride," he said from inside Fillmore before coming to the Held tent party next door.

"I have friends who stay in the city No matter what, stay in hotels, we'll hang out, enjoy Detroit, we have our rain gear anyway," he said, "I do not have any maps for the game anyway," he added "I came down, that's one of Detroit's best days."

Staff Writers Charles E. Ramirez and Melody Baeten contributed to it.
