SAN FRANCISCO – Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones will not tweet for a week. But even before the mild sanctioning by the social media service, his Infowars account had lured users to another social media platform – Verizon's own Tumblr. Late Tuesday, Twitter suspended the personal account of the "Infowars" host for breaching the social media company's rules against the incitement of violence after Jones tweeted a link to a video on Twitter periscope and supporters Called to Prepare Their "Combat Guns" Against Media and "Antifa" Activists

The one-week suspension prevents Jones from tweeting or retweeting, though he will be able to search Twitter. The Twitter account for his "Infowars" show remains active.

Jones, a far-right expert and provocateur, has promoted widely-debated theories. Among other things, he said the Sandy Hook Elementary Murder Murders had been staged, and he said the survivors of the high school shoot in Parkland, Florida, were actors.

He has a large following in social media, including 889,000 followers on Twitter. And he was praised by President Donald Trump, who appeared on "InfoWars" during the 201

6 presidential campaign.

Infowars had already referred his followers to another page – Tumblr.

"You can use our Facebook, Apple, Spotify, Tunein, Youtube, Stitcher, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Flickr, Vimeo, Sprout, Mailchimp & Disqus but they will never take our ……….. Tumblr Infowars tweeted Tuesday. The tweet contains a link to the Infowars Tumblr page.

Even if they refuse to stop the spread of fake messages, the big tech platforms that host social media services have been detesting users for the Promote elimination of debunked theories. Instead, they have relied on other guidelines to limit these activities.

Google's own YouTube terminated its account for violating community guidelines. Facebook has removed the pages for violating the social networking guidelines against hate speech. Apple shut down its podcasts because the company "does not tolerate hate speech." The Infowars app is still available on Apple's App Store and Google Play. [Twitter] By Tuesday, Twitter had claimed that he had done nothing wrong despite growing complaints that Jones had ignored his policy violations.

The faltering steps to curb Jones's social media dissemination have intensified the discussion about platforms that have replaced traditional media for many Americans, deciding what content users see. While many have praised Facebook, Apple and others for the removal of its content, others have warned that platforms can moderate, based on offensive content, is a slippery slope of companies that have a reputation for the unequal application of rules about language. As a battle cry, he yells and calls the cleansing of his online accounts a conspiracy of "big tech" for conservative views to censor the 2018 and the 2020 presidential elections.

He has directed users to other outlets. The Infowars Tumblr page contains links to Infowars-like websites such as newswars.com and prisonplanet.com. Tumblr is a blogging and social media platform from Oath Inc., a subsidiary of Verizon.

Tumblr did not respond to a request for comment.

Jones continues to stream his show live on Infowars.com. His accounts on lesser-known social media sites known to be popular with Alt-Right also remain live.
